Loud Crack Preceded Balcony’s Collapse
From Times Wire Reports
Witnesses said they heard a loud crack before a balcony gave way at a popular nightspot, dropping dozens of screaming people 14 feet.
At least 80 people were injured at the Diamond Horseshoe Casino, when they fell onto broken glass and splintered wood Friday.
Fire Chief Tom Maloney said the balcony passed its most recent check, conducted as part of a routine fire inspection.
Maloney said he was waiting for an engineer’s report on the deck’s occupancy load.
