Re “Little League’s Losing Streak,” editorial, Aug. 17: Among the many cited Little League alternatives for physical activity available to kids, you failed to mention one that has been around since long before Little League, Pop Warner, AYSO and all the rest: Boy Scouts.

Scouts get to do canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing, backpacking and many other fitness-related activities. In these activities, “everybody plays” all the time.

Almost all organized youth sports programs (even soccer) eventually take on a “win for the coaches’ and parents’ ego” emphasis. The Scouts have never fallen into this trap. They deserve more than a “pass,” even from your editorial department.
