Former Enron CEO Seeks Separate Trial

Former Enron Corp. Chief Executive Jeffrey K. Skilling, indicted for fraud and conspiracy, asked a federal judge to sever his trial from former Enron Chairman Kenneth L. Lay and ex-accounting chief Richard A. Causey.

The charges against Lay and Causey have little to do with Skilling and would prejudice jurors against him, Skilling’s lawyer Dan Petrocelli said in a motion filed in federal court in Houston.

All three defendants are seeking separate trials. U.S. District Judge Sim Lake said last week that he would rule on all severance motions by mid-September.
