A French Lesson
Re “France Dedicates World’s Tallest Bridge,” Dec. 15: It’s ironic that we supposedly hate the French because of their presumed cowardice and incompetence, while they just opened one of the most beautiful and technologically advanced bridges in the world -- the world’s tallest too.
Meanwhile, California and the U.S. are in such dire financial straits that the government now wants to replace the east span of the Bay Bridge with a boring, flat-road design to save money instead of the beautiful design approved by voters. Amazing what can be accomplished when a society puts its resources toward the common good instead of tax cuts.
