Renegade soldiers have advanced in eastern Congo, taking control of two more villages during clashes with government troops, United Nations officials said.

“We were told by a local source that the fighting had stopped as of this morning. There is no information on casualties,” said Jacqueline Chenard, a U.N. spokeswoman in Goma, capital of the eastern province of North Kivu.
