Social Security Accepts Town’s Marriage Papers

The Social Security Administration said it will now accept marriage licenses from New Paltz after earlier rejecting them because it confused the town with a village where disallowed same-sex marriages were performed.
The agency had been rejecting all marriage licenses issued by the Town of New Paltz after Feb. 27, the date the mayor of the Village of New Paltz began performing same-sex marriage ceremonies.
