Jury Tells FedEx to Pay in Discrimination Case

FedEx Corp. was told by a jury in Florida to pay $1.57 million for retaliating against a white manager who tried to promote minorities in the customer service department.

A federal jury in Orlando ordered FedEx to give $201,000 in back pay and $1.37 million in damages to Ted Maines, who claimed he was forced out of his job for trying to hire two minorities for supervisory positions, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said.

FedEx said it doesn’t discriminate and that it would seek to overturn the verdict.

FedEx shares fell 90 cents to $99.63 on the NYSE.
