Country comforts

Regarding Robert Hilburn’s column, “Two Standouts Spur a Critic to Rage Against the Routine” [Dec. 19], I must say thank you. I immediately went out and got Loretta Lynn’s new album, “Van Lear Rose,” and it was everything he said about it. As a kid growing up in Idaho in the ‘60s, all we had was country music. I loved it then, but like Zell Miller, I didn’t leave country, it left me.

What Ms. Lynn and her collaborator Jack White have done is nothing short of an old-time gospel revival of country music. I say hallelujahs.
