One Costly Kitty

Re the $50,000 cloned kitty, Dec. 23: I recently lost my beloved cat of 18 years, so I can appreciate the grief that the Texas woman experienced when her cat, Nicky, died. What I cannot understand is how she could spend $50,000 to clone her dead cat. Three thoughts come to mind: (1) the number of abandoned kittens at every animal shelter that need a good home; (2) the number of Christmas toys that $50,000 would buy for poor children; and (3) the amount of psychological counseling this woman could obtain to help her overcome her nutty spending priorities.
