Costly Bureaucrat Digs
Re “Building Puts Form Over Bodily Function,” Dec. 26: The sky’s the limit when it comes to giving government bureaucrats expensive digs. If it cost $190 million to build the 716,200-square-foot Caltrans building downtown, that works out to $265 per square foot. In my 20 years of commercial real estate experience, I have found that nobody squanders money for building construction like the government.
A decade or so ago the South Coast Air Quality Management District built a similar Government Mahal in Diamond Bar at an absurd price. As Will Rogers said, “Just be glad you’re not getting all the government you’re paying for.”
