Invisible genius

I’ve been deeply inspired by Mark Swed’s article (“The Sound of America,” Jan. 25) lauding modern composer John Cage and his “4’33”,” four minutes and 33 seconds of total silence, as “an extraordinary experience.”

This week I plan to write a major novel -- 433 pages without a single word on them. And next week I intend to rival Titian and Vermeer by producing a blank canvas with not a speck of paint on it.
