Debate Over ‘Passion’ Sources Misses the Point

Share

Re “There’s Never Been a ‘Passion’ for the Truth,” Commentary, Jan. 28: It seems to me that if both Jews and Christians would focus their attention on Jesus there wouldn’t be any arguments. Some Christians who erroneously are vindictive about Jesus’ death must remember that, according to the Christian eschatology, the Passion was necessary for the salvation and that the Jews who persecuted Jesus played the essential role in the process. Christians must be thankful to the Jews: the savior Jew and his persecuting Jews.

Likewise, Jews who feel they are getting a bum rap for Jesus’ death should focus on the fact that Jesus, whom Christians worship as their savior, was a Jew, after all (i.e., 2 billion Gentiles on this planet are worshipping a Jew who purportedly lived a short life 2,000 years ago).

This world of ours may not be such a bad place to live in when we try to build upon the positive common denominators between nations, religions and races.
