The Defense Department last week also identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Matthew J. August, 28, of Rhode Island; captain, Army. August was among three soldiers killed Tuesday in an improvised explosive device attack in Khaldiyah, Iraq. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Mech) at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Michael T. Blaise, 29, of Tennessee; chief warrant officer, Army. Blaise was one of two soldiers killed Jan. 23 when their OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter crashed on its way back from a combat mission near Mosul in northern Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Aviation Brigade at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Shawn M. Clemens, 28, of Allegany, N.Y.; staff sergeant, Army. Clemens was among seven soldiers killed Thursday when a weapons cache exploded west of Ghazni, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Robert J. Cook, 24, of Sun Prairie, Wis.; specialist, Army. Cook was among seven soldiers killed Thursday when a weapons cache exploded west of Ghazni, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Ervin Dervishi, 21, of Fort Worth; private first class, Army. Dervishi was killed Jan. 24 when a rocket-propelled grenade struck his Bradley Fighting Vehicle during a combat patrol in Baji, Iraq. He was evacuated to the 28th Combat Support Hospital, where he later died. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Patrick Dorff, 32, of Minnesota; chief warrant officer, Army. Dorff was killed Jan. 25 when his helicopter went down in the Tigris River in Iraq during a search for four soldiers lost when their watercraft capsized. His body was recovered Thursday. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 10th Aviation (Ft. Drum), and attached to the 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Brian D. Hazelgrove, 29, of Fort Rucker, Ala.; chief warrant officer, Army. Hazelgrove was one of two soldiers killed Jan. 23 when their OH-58 Kiowa Warrior helicopter crashed on its way back from a combat mission near Mosul in northern Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 10th Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Kenneth W. Hendrickson, 41, of Bismarck, N.D.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Hendrickson was one of two soldiers killed Jan. 24 when the convoy they were in was attacked with an improvised explosive device north of Fallouja, Iraq. He was assigned to the 957th Engineer Company, 130th Engineer Brigade in Bismarck, N.D.

James T. Hoffman, 41, of Whitesburg, Ky.; sergeant first class, Army. Hoffman was among three soldiers killed Tuesday in an improvised explosive device attack in Khaldiyah, Iraq. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Mech) at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Luke S. James, 24, of Oklahoma; second lieutenant, Army. James was one of three soldiers killed Tuesday in an improvised explosive device attack near Iskandariyah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Lester O. Kinney II, 27, of Zanesville, Ohio; staff sergeant, Army. Kinney was one of three soldiers killed Tuesday in an improvised explosive device attack near Iskandariyah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Adam G. Kinser, 21, of Sacramento; specialist, Army Reserve. Kinser was among seven soldiers killed Thursday when a weapons cache exploded west of Ghazni, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Army Reserve’s 304th Psychological Operations Company in Sacramento.

Sean G. Landrus, 31, of Thompson, Ohio; staff sergeant, Army. Landrus died Thursday at the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq as a result of injuries suffered Tuesday when a roadside improvised explosive device blew up in Khaldiyah, Iraq. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Mech) at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Curtis Mancini, 43, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sergeant first class, Army Reserve. Mancini was among seven soldiers killed Thursday when a weapons cache exploded west of Ghazni, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Army Reserve’s 486th Civil Affairs Battalion in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Luis A. Moreno, 19, of the Bronx, N.Y.; private first class, Army. Moreno died Thursday at Lakenheath Medical Treatment Facility in Britain of injuries suffered Jan. 23 when he was shot while guarding a gas station in Baghdad. He was assigned to Battery A, 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery at Ft. Riley, Kan.

James D. Mowris, 37, of Aurora, Miss.; staff sergeant, Army Reserve. Mowris was among seven soldiers killed Thursday when a weapons cache exploded west of Ghazni, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Army Reserve’s 805th Military Police Company in Raleigh, N.C.

Cory R. Mracek, 26, of Hay Springs, Neb.; sergeant, Army. Mracek was one of three soldiers killed Tuesday in an improvised explosive device attack near Iskandariyah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 319th Field Artillery at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Travis A. Moothart, 23, of Brownsville, Ore.; sergeant, Army. Moothart was among three soldiers killed Tuesday in an improvised explosive device attack in Khaldiyah, Iraq. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (Mech) at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Randy S. Rosenberg, 23, of Berlin, N.H.; sergeant, Army. Rosenberg was one of three soldiers killed Jan. 24 when a car bomb exploded west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Justin A. Scott, 22, of Bellevue, Ky.; specialist, Army. Scott was among seven soldiers killed Thursday when a weapons cache exploded west of Ghazni, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Keith L. Smette, 25, of Fargo, N.D.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Smette was one of two soldiers killed Jan. 24 when the convoy they were in was attacked with an improvised explosive device north of Fallouja, Iraq.
