Police Say Governor’s Driver Was Speeding

A crash that left Maine’s governor with a broken rib occurred because his driver was going too fast for icy highway conditions, police said.
A sport utility vehicle driven by a state police officer on Gov. John E. Baldacci’s security detail was traveling at an estimated 55 mph to 65 mph Wednesday when it clipped a car it was trying to pass, police said. The SUV plunged into a ditch.
