A man convicted of murdering 67 people was executed in Luohe, China, state media reported. Yang Xinhua, 38, was found guilty Feb. 1 of killings in Henan and three other provinces during a series of crimes that began in 2001 and ended with his capture in November.

The brief report on state television about his execution didn’t say how Yang was put to death. Chinese courts use either lethal injection or a gunshot to the head or neck.

Yang was also convicted of 23 rapes during his crime spree, which began after his release from a labor camp, where he served a term for rape and theft, according to earlier reports.
