State Shuts Down Server After Hackers Break In
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Hackers broke into a state agency’s computer containing the sensitive personal information about 90,000 people who work as nannies, butlers and gardeners and their employers.
The Employment Development Division discovered the break-in Jan. 20 and shut down the server, spokesman Kevin Callori said Friday.
It was unclear whether any personal information had been lifted. Investigators think the hackers broke into the server to e-mail spam, not to collect information for identity theft.
