Clausen Earns Olympic Return

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Two-time Olympian Curt Clausen earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team Sunday, winning the 50-kilometer walk in the team trials.
Clausen covered the 2,000-meter loop course 25 times in 3 hours 58 minutes 24 seconds. Tim Seaman was second in 4:08:06, and Philip Dunn followed in 4:10:37.
Clausen made two bathroom stops midway through the race.
Clausen improved the Olympic “A” qualifying standard of 4:00:00 Sunday. Two spots on the Olympic team await the two highest finishers Sunday who beat the “A” standard by Aug. 9.
The top five finishers Sunday will represent Team USA in the 50-kilometer competition in the IAAF World Race Walking Cup on May 1-2 in Germany.
