Myopia on Ant Problem

Re “O.C. Ends Fire Ant Eradication Program,” Feb. 20: What fools! To eliminate funding from the Orange County Vector Control District, the only organization that ever controlled and almost defeated the imported red fire ants, defines shortsightedness. In six months that $5 million is going to seem like a bargain. There are no second chances with these ants. They will multiply to the extent that $20 million will not be enough. Unless we take the lead locally right now, we will all learn firsthand what an environmental catastrophe that decision will be.
