Holiday cheer, tacos and a CD

Bopped into Senor Fred for some holiday cheer and owner Andre Guerrero slipped me a copy of his son’s CD. His boy Fred (thus the name of the hip Mexican food eatery and bar on Ventura Boulevard) is in a bueno emo-punk band called Light the Sky, which plays the Troubadour on Jan. 5.... And speaking of emo-punk at the Troub, Bleed the Dream strutted its stuff at the WeHo club in a recent showcase, and it’s looking like a happy new year for the L.A. band. Bleed the Dream beat out a dozen groups to score an opening slot on Pennywise’s tour, which kicks off on Jan. 21 in Atlanta.... Those looking to get their dance on should check out Ivar’s new Saturday club, “Funkn Groovn.” The night is hosted by Boogie of MTV’s “Wade Robson Project,” and he gathers L.A.’s best dancers together each week to surprise the crowd with choreographed dance performances that pop-lock outta nowhere. Boogie down.

That ‘70s doorman

So I had to break in a new doorman. Brad Prepon, the uber-tall brother of “That ‘70s Show” hottie Laura Prepon, is keeping the revelers under control at Concorde on Wednesdays and Shelter on Saturdays. He says dealing with Hollywood scenesters is a snap because he got hands-on ‘tude training in Jersey.... And speaking of Concorde, owners Loyal Pennings, Scott Oster and Shereen Arazm are having a swell time with their new boutique hotel and bar, El Centro, which makes its official debut on Jan. 8 with a new night of shenanigans brought to you by heavy hitters Bolthouse Productions.... And don’t miss Bolthouse’s “New Year’s Hang Over Rehab Party” tomorrow night at Avalon.... Ran into my favorite scene dandy, writer Clint Catalyst, at Hollywood’s Blest boutique. Catalyst, who runs the Parlour Club’s “Unhappy Hour” on Sundays and also edited the upcoming Alyson Books compilation “Pills, Thrills, Chills and Heartache,” says he’s planning to start a new performance art night at the Parlour Club in spring called Touche....Hot item of the week: Gun earrings by Lilac at Goodform. The Hollywood beauty parlor is selling these double-barrel delights after one of its stylists spotted them at the midget rodeo. I ain’t lyin’.... Travis Andres is putting On the Rox back in the mix. The nightclub above the Roxy on the Sunset Strip is notorious for its Heidi Fleiss connection (the madam promoted a sexy night there back in the day). Now Andres is making it a hipster hang Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Swell tequila swilling

This we like: El Guapo Cantina, the new margaritaville on Melrose Avenue, brought to you by the folks who created Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Continental Martini Bar in Beverly Hills. El Guapo Cantina is already scoring big points with the tequila-swilling sports crowd. The bar has already attracted such celebs as David Spade, Judd Nelson and Andy Dick.... Gotta split now because the new issue of the Source is hitting the stands and it contains the first pictorial of scene queen Darlene Ortiz -- a.k.a., rap’s first cover girl -- in over a decade. Ortiz, who’s now the marketing and promotions coordinator for Hollywood club promoters Hardball Productions, says the Source re-creates her eye-popping cover of Ice T’s “Power” album, but with an Asian twist.
