State Prisons

Re “Ask Hard Questions,” editorial, Jan. 7: Kudos to Sens. Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough) and Gloria Romero (D-Los Angeles) for having the guts to question the leaders of the state prison system. Why do so many parolees commit crimes again? Why has education and counseling been dropped in the prison system? These facts have to be related. Why do guards earn so much and there is so little to show for it? We need answers.
