L.A. Daily News Names Rafter as Publisher, CEO

Tracy Rafter was named publisher and chief executive of the Daily News of Los Angeles on Monday.

Rafter, 39, replaces John Schueler, who recently was promoted to president and chief executive of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, a division of Denver-based MediaNews Group.

Since 2001, Rafter had been senior vice president for advertising and marketing at Los Angeles Newspaper Group.

Rafter began her career in advertising sales management in Idaho, after which she was general manager for a group of twice-weekly newspapers in suburban St. Louis.

She also has served as publisher at a suburban Pennsylvania newspaper group, publisher of the Times in Pawtucket, R.I., and group publisher of the Taunton Daily Gazette and the Herald News in Fall River, Mass.

She owned a group of weeklies in Oregon and Washington before joining Los Angeles Newspaper Group in 2001.

L.A. Newspaper Group papers include the Daily News, the Long Beach Press-Telegram, the Pasadena Star-News, Whittier Daily News, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in Ontario, the Sun in San Bernardino and the Redlands Daily Facts.
