Trojans Defeated by Arizona, 75-64

Dee-Dee Wheeler scored 20 points and Shawntinice Polk added 17 in Arizona’s 75-64 win over USC on Thursday night at Tucson.

Aimee Grzyb and Natalie Jones each added 11 for Arizona, 13-4 overall and 5-1 in the Pacific 10 Conference. Ebony Hoffman led USC (7-7, 4-2) with 17 points, and Eshaya Murphy had 15.

The Wildcats shot 73% in the first half to USC’s 29% but led only 46-30 at halftime and couldn’t seal the win until the final minutes.

The Wildcats led, 69-55, with 5:05 remaining in the game after Polk’s layup. USC scored nine straight points to close to within five with 49 seconds left before the Wildcats won with free throws and a breakaway layup by Natalie Jones.

Murphy connected on a three-pointer with 4:16 remaining in the first half to narrow Arizona’s lead to 30-28, but the Wildcats scored the final 14 points before the break. Wheeler scored eight of her 17 first-half points in the late surge.

Arizona State 73, UCLA 58 -- Kristen Kovesdy scored 24 points and Betsy Boardman added 16 to lead the Sun Devils at Tempe, Ariz., and end the Bruin winning streak at three games.

Arizona State (10-5, 4-2) outrebounded the Bruins, 44-27, in winning their ninth straight at home.

Noelle Quinn had 15 points and Amanda Livingston scored 13 for UCLA (8-7, 3-3). But Nikki Blue had only seven points, half her average.

Kovesdy, who had six rebounds and three blocks, shot 10 for 14 from the field to lead the Sun Devils to 54% shooting. UCLA shot 37%.

The Sun Devils went on a 14-3 run late in the first half to take a 31-18 lead with three minutes left and was up, 35-24, at halftime. The Sun Devils then put the game away with an 11-0 run early in the second half.
