From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A famous restaurant that closed last month after serving its patent-protected Swedish pancakes for six decades has been saved by a neighbor.

Sears Fine Food will reopen this spring with the same name and menu but under new management. Man Kim, who runs several nearby 1950s-style diners and several Chinese and Japanese restaurants, decided to take over the restaurant’s lease after seeing its owners struggle in recent weeks with $2 million in debt.

“We are confident we have found the right person,” said Lee Boyajian, who ran the 65-year-old restaurant with his wife, Joanie, until they closed it Dec. 29. “I hated to see it close forever.”
