‘American Idol’: An Exercise in Humiliation

I was sorry to see the article extolling the television show “American Idol” (“Realizing ‘Idol’ Dreams,” Jan. 12).

In the name of entertainment, the producers of this monstrosity intentionally feature young people with poor singing abilities for the sole purpose of allowing their so-called judges to take perverse delight in humiliating them.

This hideous exhibition is sadistic and disgusting. Everyone connected with it should be ashamed.
