From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A seal pup is getting used to the tourists who line up for a peek at the colony of seals that has taken over a former bathing area for children.

The pup born at the Children’s Pool weighs an estimated 20 to 25 pounds and measures about 34 inches. The pup was named Watson by the man who claims to have first spotted him.

Watson hauled out on the shore at 6 a.m. Thursday, according to James Hudnall, who has spent the last 3 1/2 years monitoring the seals at the Children’s Pool. He named the seal in honor of Capt. Paul Watson, president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, a nonprofit government agency.
