From Times Wire Reports

A proposal to ban genetically modified crops in Humboldt County has qualified for the November ballot.

A coalition called Humboldt Green Genes collected more than enough signatures, County Elections Manager Lindsey McWilliams announced Friday. The measure needed 4,389 valid signatures to qualify.

Humboldt Green Genes members said they were inspired by the success of a similar measure in neighboring Mendocino County, where voters in March passed the nation’s first countywide ban on genetically engineered crops and animals.
