‘Crocodile Compassion’

Share

Re “U.S. to Urge HIV Testing for Women About to Give Birth,” July 12: While fondly touting his compassionate pledge to increase funds for the global war against AIDS, President Bush cuts down the number of U.S. scientists at the Bangkok conference from 200 to 50 and tries to force developing countries to sign agreements to forgo production of generic and cheaper drugs (“Doctors Say Pact Threatens AIDS Progress,” July 13).

The thousands, if not millions, of lives that will be lost by people who cannot afford the high-priced drugs of U.S. pharmaceutical companies will become one more testimonial to Bush’s “crocodile compassion.”
