Is It True Mex Appears on Winning Course

Share

No horse competing on Hollywood Park’s card tonight has won more races than Is It True Mex.

An 8-year-old gelded son of Is It True, who is best remembered for upsetting Easy Goer in the 1988 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs, Is It True Mex has won 14 of 60 as he enters this evening’s seventh race, a $40,000 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs on turf. The race is part of a pick six with a carry-over of $100,531.

Take away Is It True Mex’s dirt record and his mark is even more impressive. He has won 11 of 32 on turf while splitting his time in Northern and Southern California.

Co-owned and trained by Librado Barocio, Is It True Mex will be going for his fourth win in 12 races over the Hollywood Park turf course.

He won on April 23, prevailing by a neck over Free Cheers, then was third behind old class horse Los Solano on May 16.

Omar Figueroa, who had a lot of success on the gelding up north and who has been aboard for his two starts at the current meet, has the call again tonight. They will leave from the outside post in the field of eight.

Monsieur Boulanger, dropping in class, will be making his second start for trainer Kristin Mulhall and could be much improved at this level.

He beat $62,500 claimers over the layout on May 2, 2003, when trained by Mike Puhich.

Race of the day: Shebeen, who has been second in eight of 11 starts racing in England and the U.S., will try for another runner-up performance in tonight’s fifth at Hollywood Park. David Flores will ride Shebeen in the $47,000 allowance at 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass.

One for the road: Polish Times bids for his 12th win in 35 starts and second in a row as he steps up in class for trainer Scott Lake in today’s seventh at Belmont Park.

The 7-year-old Sea Hero gelding should be positioned just off the pace under jockey Mike Luzzi in the $75,000 claimer at one mile.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Raw Data in the first, Star Wizard, The Castle and La Bella in the second and Song Sung Gold and K’ehleyr in the third.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 3/82. Money: Previous day/meet total: $18.40/$458.80. Total money bet: $638.
