Severe Storms Kill 2 and Destroy Homes
Crews worked to restore power to thousands of residents after thunderstorms swept across Missouri and Kansas, spawning tornadoes and causing at least one traffic death and a drowning.
At least six tornadoes touched down south of Wichita, Kan., destroying three homes, damaging more than a dozen others and overturning cars. Several funnel clouds were reported in Missouri.
Winds were so strong on Truman Lake, about 70 miles southeast of Kansas City, Mo., that a 16-foot boat was swamped. The body of the boat’s owner was found along the shore.
