Captain, First Mate in Ferry Mishap Are Fired
From Times Wire Reports
The state Department of Transportation and Public Facilities has fired the captain and the first mate of the ferry LeConte, which was grounded on a reef in Peril Strait last month.
The agency in Juneau said it had completed its investigation and found that Capt. Harvey Williamson and Chief Mate William Petrich were negligent.
The 235-foot LeConte was en route from Angoon to Sitka in southeast Alaska on May 10 when it hit Cozian Reef in clear weather.
