Welcome words on pesticides

Re “What’s Lost When the Spray Clears” and “Doing What Comes Naturally” (June 3): Emily Green makes eloquent and important statements about holding the pesticides and leaving nature to nature. The insidious plague of pesticide and herbicide use accomplishes only two things: a dangerous, toxic interruption of nature and fat bank accounts for the snake-oil-pushing chemical manufacturers. The articles gave good advice about how to choose the right plant for a particular location and resources for more information.

Emily Green’s articles are excellent, not only in terms of the information about organic gardening but also the practicality and clarity of her writing. If more well-meaning people had her rhetorical gifts, we would have less of a one-sided battle against Monsanto et al.
