Share

The six fillies and mares running in today’s $200,000 Beverly Hills Handicap, a Grade II at 1 1/4 miles on the Hollywood Park turf course, have combined to win 36 races and earn $1,524,712.

This makes them the second most accomplished group of horses running on today’s card.

In terms of victories and earnings, the fourth, a $62,500 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass, is the day’s best race. It is also the first leg of a pick six with a carry-over of $177,552.

Puma, Boston Common, Los Solano, F J’s Pace, Billy’s Echo, Beyond Brilliant and Full Moon Madness -- all of whom are geldings -- have combined to win 73 races and have banked $3,207,869.

The lone millionaire in the bunch is Full Moon Madness, who, along with F J’s Pace, are the senior citizens of the bunch. Both are 9-year-olds.

Owned by R-Two Angels Stable, Inc. and trained by Bob Marshall, Full Moon Madness, a California-bred son of Half A Year, has won 15 of 40 and $1,028,885.

He has been especially effective at today’s distance, winning five of nine over the local course.

Boston Common, who has won two in a row over the layout for owner Richard Englander and trainer Jeff Mullins, is the 9-5 morning line favorite in the first leg of the pick six. He has won 12 of 32 overall.

Race of the day: A Bit O’Gold, who has won four of six, heads a field of 13 3-year-olds scheduled to run in today’s $1 million Queen’s Plate at Woodbine. The 1 1/4-mile race is the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown.

One for the road: Dealer Choice, who missed by a nose to eventual Santa Anita Derby winner Castledale in his U.S. debut in the Generous Stakes on Nov. 29 at Hollywood Park, can win in his return for trainer Bobby Frankel in today’s seventh at Belmont Park. Jerry Bailey will ride the 3-year-old Green Tune colt in the $60,000 Mac Diarmida at 1 1/8 miles on the turf.
