Judges at The Hague tribunal sentenced a retired Yugoslav navy vice admiral to seven years in jail for a 1991 attack on the Croatian city of Dubrovnik, in which two civilians were killed and three wounded by shell fire.

Miodrag Jokic had pleaded guilty in August to murder, cruel treatment, attacks on civilians and destruction of historic buildings.

Dubrovnik’s Old Town suffered heavy damage when Yugoslav forces shelled it after Croatia declared its independence in 1991.
