Recycling Payouts

Re “Recycler Sting Finds Payouts Too Low,” March 21: I wonder why California consumers can’t simply count up their bottles and cans the way citizens in other states do. Bottles are given an amount deducted at purchase, five to 10 cents (printed on the label), and the consumers simply cash them in. Here in California, we line up at the recycling centers and let them do their “magic tricks” with weighing and other sleights of hand.
