Pledge Replaced With Constitutional Writings
Some students have an alternative to the daily Pledge of Allegiance.
While the U.S. Supreme Court is weighing whether the phrase “under God” may stay in the pledge, more than a dozen Lompoc High School students are showing their patriotism in another way: They recite a passage from the preamble to the U.S. Constitution.
“When I have had my students say the pledge, I’m not too impressed with the quality of it. It seemed to me that they don’t care to say it after saying it for 10, 11 or 12 years,” said science teacher John Galisky.
