Barrera-Ayala Match Is Set
An agreement in principle has been reached for Marco Antonio Barrera to fight Paulie Ayala on June 19 at the Home Depot Center in Carson. Also on the card will be a middleweight bout between Jermain Taylor and Raul Marquez.
Barrera (57-4, 40 knockouts), a former World Boxing Council featherweight and World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight champion, is coming off an 11th-round TKO loss to Manny Pacquiao in November. Ayala (35-2, 12) is a former World Boxing Assn. bantamweight titleholder.
The nontitle match will be at 126 pounds.
Taylor (20-0, 15) was a bronze medalist in the 2000 Olympics. Marquez (35-2, 24), a former International Boxing Federation 154-pound champion, has lost only to Fernando Vargas and Yory Boy Campas.
