Middlebury College Gets $60 Million in Gifts

An anonymous donor has made a $50-million gift to Middlebury College, said the school’s president, John M. McCardell Jr. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, it is the largest gift ever received by a New England liberal arts college.
A second anonymous donor gave the school an additional $10 million. “I am humbled by this ... philanthropy,” said Ron Liebowitz, who in June will succeed McCardell as president. Middlebury College, founded in 1800, has about 2,200 students.
