From Times Wire Reports

Vladimir V. Putin took the oath of office to serve as Russia’s president for four more years, telling his people in a nationalistic speech that it was up to them to modernize their country.

The highly popular Putin, 51, who won reelection in March by a landslide, was inaugurated in a ceremony fit for the czars in Moscow’s gilded Kremlin halls.

About 1,700 guests from Russia’s elite watched the former Soviet KGB spy take the pledge to protect Russia’s independence and serve its 145 million citizens.
