Ituri Province Militias Pledge to Disarm

All seven armed factions in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s troubled Ituri province agreed to lay down their guns and join the country’s peace process, raising hopes of an end to tribal violence in the mineral-rich northeast.
Fighting between ethnic militias, often supported by Rwanda and Uganda, has killed about 50,000 people in Ituri since 1999.
