NBC, which last week bid farewell to Kelsey Grammer as the star of its long-running comedy “Frasier,” welcomed him back Monday with the announcement that he’ll star in a new musical version of “A Christmas Carol” this year.

Grammer will portray Scrooge in the two-hour TV movie. The ghosts of Christmases past, present and future will be played by, respectively, Jesse L. Martin, Jane Krakowski and Geraldine Chaplin. Jason Alexander and Jennifer Love Hewitt are also in the cast.
