7 Held in $70-Million Heist Attempt at Airport
A gang smashed a van through a warehouse’s steel shutters at London’s Heathrow Airport and threatened the staff with guns and knives in an attempt to steal $70 million in gold and some cash, police said.
But more than 100 police officers were lying in wait after receiving a tip.
Police fired special rounds, used to deflate tires, to disable the gang’s van. One officer suffered minor injuries.
Six men were arrested at the scene, but two forced a worker to drive them away in a hijacked van.
One was caught, but the other is still at large.
