Attack Alert to Make His 3-Year Old Debut

Share

Attack Alert, an impressive maiden winner at Del Mar last summer, will make his 3-year-old debut for trainer Bob Baffert in tonight’s sixth at Hollywood Park.

In his second race, on July 23, Attack Alert won by three lengths. In his debut 18 days earlier at Hollywood Park, he was second, beaten by a neck by longshot Capitano.

At Del Mar, Attack Alert finished in front of Cheiron, who won last month’s Snow Chief Stakes, and three other horses who have since won -- Spellbinder, Rhino Chaser and Rosberg.

Other contenders in the $47,000 allowance at 6 1/2 furlongs are Bullistic, who has not raced since Dec. 20 for trainer John Shirreffs, Pepper Shaker and Areyoutalkintome, who has been first, second or third in all eight of his starts.

Race of the day: Tales Of Glory, who won two of six as a 2-year-old for trainer Todd Pletcher, will make his first start of 2004 in today’s eighth at Belmont Park, a $47,000 allowance at seven furlongs. John Velazquez, who was aboard for both of the Honour And Glory colt’s wins, has the mount and they will leave from the outside in the field of six. Parhelion, Blue Skies Ahead, Clever Electrician, Buzzy’s Gold, who was scratched from a race on Thursday, and Tenthirteen will provide his opposition.

One for the road: Indy Groove won gamely in the slop at Churchill Downs and could come right back for trainer Tom Proctor in today’s seventh, a $52,900 allowance at 1 1/16 miles. The A.P. Indy filly was flattered when third-place finisher Carolina Rose, who was seven lengths behind her on April 30, came back to win. Mark Guidry will ride.

Exotically speaking: A pick four using Concert Goer in the fifth, Attack Alert and Pepper Shaker in the sixth, Sweet Frippery, Market Garden and Phaedra in the seventh and Mysterious Phoenix and All Flags Flying in the eighth.
