Forever Finding Fault With the LAPD

Share

Re “LAPD Overseer Requests Larger Staff,” May 18: Let’s get real about the job of federal monitor Michael Cheraksky. It’s been three years since the federal government started monitoring the L.A. Police Department and he still hasn’t found that the department is in full compliance. Cheraksky is a lawyer; does anyone think that the department will be in compliance? If the LAPD adheres to all the rules that never seem to end, Cheraksky will be out of a job. When the consent decree went into effect, the LAPD went from a proactive to a reactive department. I can’t blame the men and women of the LAPD for just reacting to their duties. Who would want to put his or her life on the line just to have someone like Cheraksky and his helpers conduct a hunt for any improper work done, no matter how slight. Keep up the good work, LAPD, and maybe someday someone with a little nerve at City Hall will stand up for you and not let someone who has never done one second of police work run the department for the city fathers.
