German Crowd Savors a Composed Salad
From Times Wire Reports
The sound of 90 pounds of finely tuned cucumbers, leeks, peppers and other vegetables entertained a Hamburg, Germany, audience at a weekend concert by the nine-member Viennese Vegetable Orchestra.
The orchestra played a range of original compositions on instruments that included a flute made from a carrot, a saxophone carved from a cucumber and a pumpkin turned into a double bass.
They were accompanied by a raw vegetable aroma.
The instruments were freshly made about an hour before the performance. When it was over, they were turned into soup.
