From Times Wire Reports

President Bush keeps a memento of the U.S.-led war in Iraq -- the pistol seized from Saddam Hussein when the deposed Iraqi president was captured near his hometown of Tikrit.

The mounted handgun was given to the president by U.S. troops, White House spokesman Jim Morrell said. The gift of the weapon was first reported in today’s issues of Time magazine.

“The president was proud of the performance and bravery of our armed forces and was honored to receive it on behalf of the troops involved in the operation,” Morrell said.
