Son of Late President Is Named to Succeed Him

The United Arab Emirates named Sheik Khalifa ibn Zayed al Nuhayyan as its new president in a smooth hand-over of power after the death of his father, Sheik Zayed ibn Sultan al Nuhayyan, official media reported.
Khalifa, 56, has been increasingly running the UAE. He heads Abu Dhabi’s Supreme Petroleum Council, which drafts oil policy, and is deputy supreme commander of the armed forces.
