Future Funding Fiascoes

California has created a monster by passing the stem cell initiative, and this has nothing to do with stem cells but rather with how science gets funded.

By turning a public referendum into a funding source, we have given a huge reason for scientists to see who can scare us or promise the most. Cold fusion, perpetual motion machines and miracle cures are going to rain down on us like hail -- and this in a state where the educational system is famous for producing citizens ill prepared to evaluate complicated scientific hypothesis. Hold on to your seat belts, California.
