From Times Wire Reports

A record 157,000 illegal immigrants were removed from the U.S. in the past year as authorities stepped up efforts to find those who may pose security risks, the government said.

About half of those deported in the year ending Sept. 30 had criminal convictions, an increase of 6.6% from the previous year, and deportations of those who had no criminal record rose more than 10%, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said.
