Off-balance view?

As a former journalist, I enjoyed reading David Shaw’s article about the influence of right-leaning cable “news operations” and the need for similar from the left wing [“Would a Left-Leaning Cable Network Make Things Right?” Nov. 14]. The fact is that when news becomes so slanted from the right or the left, it is no longer news and becomes propaganda instead. Great and not so great dictatorships have been built on the ability of entities to control information and spew out propaganda, thus leading to control of the way people think and act.

Is this what we really want? A number of rigid right/left wing propaganda outlets supposedly privately owned but so connected to the political structure and so controlling that the people become lazy-thinking sheep with no thoughts of their own?
