Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding, Evacuations
As much as 15 inches of rain fell in El Campo in southern Texas, causing flooding that forced people from their homes and blocked a highway.
El Campo, a town of 11,000 about 70 miles southwest of Houston, and nearby communities could see totals of as much as 20 inches of rain by the time the almost stationary storm system leaves the area, said Patrick Blood, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Houston-Galveston office.
Evacuees were housed at the town’s fire department, said Police Chief Jim Elliott. He said no injuries had been reported.
